Why have a health check?

It is estimated that over 60% of today's most common diseases are linked to the way we live our lives.  It is important to understand the consequences of our actions on our bodies, as many of these diseases are preventable.  Having particular aspects of your health and well being monitored means that you have prior knowledge of areas where you can make changes to your lifestyle with a view to improving things for the better.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a preventable disease that kills more than 110,000 people in England every year. More than 1.4 million people suffer from angina and 275,000 people have a heart attack annually. CHD is the biggest killer in the country.

(Extract from Department of Health)

Four key factors putting you at risk of CHD are smoking, high blood pressure,
high levels of cholesterol and obesity.

Fast, Convenient, Accurate Health Check

At Lawley Pharmacy we offer a comprehensive five point Health Check.
This is carried out by one of our experienced Pharmacists and also involves
a discussion about any medication you may be taking and dietary and lifestyle advice.

Just call us on 01952 504666 to arrange an appointment.

The Lawley Pharmacy Health check involves:

1. BLOOD PRESSURE CHECK

- We measure your blood pressure using a medical grade cuff blood pressure monitor.  This is a pain-free procedure and takes under three minutes.  High blood pressure is linked with an increased risk of stroke and heart disease.

2. BMI CHECK

- By measuring your height and weight we can calculate your body mass index (BMI).  We also measure your waist to establish whether you are within a healthy weight range.

3. CHOLESTEROL CHECK

- A quick and simple cholesterol test can determine whether you have high cholesterol.  Your levels will be checked by taking a tiny pin-prick sample of blood from your fingertip.  This is relatively pain-free and takes less than a second.  Results are available in less than five minutes.

4. DIABETES CHECK

- Using the same blood sample, we also measure your blood glucose levels.  Results are available in usually less than one minute.  High blood glucose levels may be a sign of diabetes.

5. HEALTH CHAT

- The results of the tests will be discussed with you along with advice, what steps to take next and an opportunity to answer any other questions you may have.

The checks do not serve as a diagnosis, but are an easy and reliable way to keep track and monitor your health.
